    PEG10是一个癌基因,在肿瘤癌变过程中起重要作用。PEG10在原发性肝癌中表达明显上调，体外细胞试验证明PEG10影响细胞周期，可促进细胞生长，在肝细胞癌变过程中起重要作用。

    PEG10 (Paternally expressed gene 10) inhibits TGF beta signaling by interacting with the TGF beta receptor ALK1. It is able to prevent apoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells through interaction with SIAH1, a mediator of apoptosis. PEG10 is a mammalian gene that has been shown to be essential for embryonic development and is highly conserved in therian mammals. PEG10 has evolved from a retroelement into a gene that is required during prenatal development and has maintained its ability to carry out –1 frameshifting to express two proteins from the same mRNA (ORF1 and ORF2). This is the first demonstration of –1 frameshifting for gene expression in animal tissues and is the highest frameshift efficiency reported.
