MMP-11主要用于肿瘤方面的研究。 Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. However, the enzyme encoded by this gene is activated intracellularly by furin within the constitutive secretory pathway. Also in contrast to other MMP's, this enzyme cleaves alpha 1 proteinase inhibitor but weakly degrades structural proteins of the extracellular matrix. MMP11, also known as stromelysin 3, is overexpressed in the stromal cells of invasive breast carcinomas but not in the stromal cells surrounding benign breast fibroadenomas. MMP11 is secreted in its proenzyme from and the zymogen has a mass of 64 kDa. The enzyme is rapidly activated to a 58 kDa form, a 45-47 kDa size, then to a 28 kDa final active form. MMP11 is not constitutively produced by most cell types.
